Dark Tranquillity: Lost to apathy

First of all, I fucken hate EP’s. There you go, I hate them. Who actually buys them and more importantly: why? No matter if I meet the nice guys of the band every now and then and no matter if they did a great fucken gig at Tuska this summer, I still wonder who buys a fucken EP…
So what we get here are 4 songs. “Lost to Apathy” is taken from the coming album “Character”. Well, I hope they didn’t choose their personal fave for this coz if so, this doesn’t make me look forward to it too much. Basic DT stuff to put it out nicely. They have written much better songs and basically all the material on “Damage Done” beats this particular track. I’m not saying it’s a bad track (yes I am), it just doesn’t grab me.
“Derivation” is obviously some combined bits and pieces from a few tracks off the coming disc. I think the idea is really cool and it makes me wonder why more bands don’t do shit like that. I dig this one. Some 3 minutes of complete chill-out. Works for me.
“The Endless Feed” is “a harsh and violent version of a song from ‘Character’”. Oki… I don’t know about the “violent” part but it sure sounds harsh and a bit industrial with neat techno sounds here and there. Think Samael and you are getting close to what it sounds like. Think me and you’ll get a hard-on. Choose wisely.
“Undo Control” is taken from the “Projector” album, with the difference that it’s a live clip this time around. A pretty slow and boring track, just as it was on the album.
I refuse to rate this as it’s an EP, but I think you should get it if you are into these guys as it hold some interesting stuff after all. Like a video and a… screensaver.
A fucken screensaver… Wow.
